Wild garlic in the hedgerows

Our local hedgerows in Treveighan are full of wild garlic, ramsons (a bulbous perennial). You can smell them as you walk down the lane, especially if a tractor has brushed past and crushed some of the leaves. They like damp woods and hedgebanks and the leaves carpet large areas from March followed by the flowers in April.
Edible, the leaf is quite mild in taste and we use in salads and to flavour pasta, the flowers also look great in a salad...

How funny - i just Googled blogs to search for 'hedgerows', as i had titled my last entry as that, and wanted to see if it would come up (how sad am i!). It didn't, but yours did. How strange that you live in North Cornwall, of all places, as the search was worldwide - we live in Treknow! I like your blog, and will return. best wishes, Vanessa
